Summary
Archie MacSporran has a predominantly Court of Session practice and specialises in medical negligence cases. His practice also includes mental health tribunals and personal injury cases. He was noted as a "silk-quality junior" in the Legal 500 of 2009.
Experience
Archie MacSporran spent four years as an Edinburgh court solicitor and has been over 18 years at the Bar. He has a wide range of experience in the Court of Session including reclaiming motions, proofs, civil jury trials, procedure rolls and commercial actions. His sheriff court work includes appeals, proofs, debates and Fatal Accident Inquiries. He also appears in mental health tribunals (including appeals to the sheriff principal) and has acted as commissioner in a "dawn raid".
Selected Cases
As a reflection of his practice, in 2010 Archie acted as junior counsel for various health boards in the following medical negligence cases which settled either after commencement of, or shortly prior to, proof and all of which were claims of several million pounds:
- 23 November – 4 week proof re misdiagnosis of colloid cyst
- 26 October – 4 week proof on quantum re cerebral palsy
- 21 September – 6 week proof re subarachnoid cyst in baby
- 15 June - 4 week cerebral palsy proof, settled after 2 weeks evidence
- 18 May – 2 week proof re attempted suicide in psychiatric hospital
- 19 January – 6 week cerebral palsy case
