Laurence C Kennedy

Summary

Laurence Kennedy was an Associate in a leading firm of Tayside solicitors before being called to the bar in 2000. He has a broad civil practice, acting for both pursuers and defenders in both the Sheriff Courts and Court of Session.

Laurence has his own website at www.laurencekennedy.com. This contains a full list of his areas of practice, examples of cases and testimonials from his instructing agents.

Experience

Laurence Kennedy’s day to day caseload tends to contain a mixture of property disputes, commercial disputes, personal injury and professional negligence cases.

He is recommended in Legal 500 for his handling of complex property disputes, where he is described as “an effective advocate in court, and excellent in an advisory role."

He has particular experience in media law such as defamation, contempt of court and copyright. He was engaged for a number of years as a shift lawyer at The Scotsman and other newspapers where he gave regular pre-publication advice.

He also has particular experience in licensing law, having acted for both licensees and local authorities in various licensing appeals. In anticipation of the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 coming into force, he obtained the Certificate in Liquor Licensing in 2006 and completed the Licensing Masterclass in 2007 and 2008.

Laurence conducts most of his cases as leading Counsel. However where a case is of exceptionally high value or complexity, or where it is tactically important to do so, he will advise on the instruction of Senior Counsel.
