Experience
Robert Howie QC has been in practice for over 20 years.
He has appeared in both the Inner and Outer Houses of the Court of Session as well as in the Lands Tribunal and the Sheriff Court. He has also appeared in several arbitrations, and has both appeared in, and acted as adviser to the adjudicator in, adjudications under the Housing Grants Construction & Regeneration Act, 1996. He has also led in the House of Lords and UK Supreme Court.

- Melville Dundas Ltd (in receivership) v George Wimpey & Co. (UK) Ltd [2007] UKHL 18 , the first House of Lords decision on the Housing Grants Construction & Regeneration Act, 1996
- Tonner v Messrs Reiach & Hall [2007] CSIH 48, the Inner House decision on dismissal for want of prosecution
- Gillies Ramsay Diamond v P.J.W. Enterprises Ltd [2005]CSIH4, the first Inner House decision on adjudication;
- The numerous 'Braer' cases including Landcatch Ltd v International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund [1998] 2LLR552
- Global Marine Drilling Ltd v Triton Holdings Ltd 2000 GWD 5-210, a decision on the ability to arrest oil rigs under the Administration of Justice Act, 1956;
- Atlantic Telecom GmbH, Noter 2004 SLT 1013 , a decision on characterisation in private international Law and the characteristic performance of a contract of loan;
- F.G.Hawkes (Western) Ltd v Szipt Ltd (Jiangsu Metals and Minerals Import and Export Group) [2007] CSOH 57, the first decision on diligence on the dependence of foreign actions in the post - Advocate General v Taylor regime
- Scottish Lion Insurance Company Limited [2010] CSIH 6 - Senior counsel for Petitioner in this application for sanction of a creditors' scheme of arrangement by a solvent company, variously reported at 2010 SLT 100 and 2010 SC 349 (application to dismiss); [2010] CSIH 34 (expenses); [2010] CSOH 87 and 2011 SLT 733 (waiver of privilege)
