Ampersand has had 23 recommendations across 7 areas of law in the Legal 500 UK 2010 edition, launched today.
In recognition of Ampersand's strength and breadth across various disciplines, the Legal 500 has listed Ampersand across all of Ampersand's core areas of practice, as well as singling out Ampersand as 'an honest, commercial, good value stable' providing 'excellent service and possibly the most effective clerking in Scotland'.
Aidan O'Neill QC is recommended in Civil Liberties and Human Rights as having 'huge intellectual capability'.
In Commercial litigation David Sellar QC is praised as ‘first choice in Scotland for technical company law matters or schemes of arrangement’. Ronnie Clancy QC, ‘apart from being an excellent advocate, is approachable and good with clients in high-value commercial litigation’. Alan Dewar QC is ‘always accessible and open to working in a collaborative way in his commercial litigation and public procurement practice’. Ampersand’s recent new silk Robert Weir QC is described as ‘a strong commercial junior with a niche in maritime law’.
Within the Company and Solvency section, David Sellar QC ‘stands out as the senior of choice in insolvency and company law’ along with David Thomson who ‘has a knowledge of corporate insolvency, possibly unparalleled at the junior Bar’.
Simon Di Rollo QC is recommended for health and safety matters.
Within the Personal injury, medical negligence and professional negligence section Maria Maguire QC is ‘empathetic and perfect for complex high-value injury defence’. Hugh Campbell QC is ‘a distinguished, experienced lawyer who acts almost exclusively for pursuers’ on personal injury claims covering disease, road traffic, and industrial accidents. Simon Di Rollo QC has ‘a considered approach, works well with other counsel, and presents well in court’. Graham Primrose QC is a strong civil practitioner who regularly handles professional negligence matters. Other recommended juniors include Archie MacSporran, Euan MacKenzie, Lisa Henderson and Lauren Sutherland, the latter who has ‘a good eye for detail’ in medical negligence litigation
Within Planning, environmental and licensing, Malcolm Thomson QC and Ailsa Wilson QC are ‘genuine experts in the planning field’. Other recommended practitioners include Ronald Clancy QC, and Marcus McKay.
Within Property, construction and agriculture, Christopher Haddow QC is ‘a leader in rating valuation and property disputes; his practice also extends to professional negligence’. Robert Howie QC is ‘highly rated for his advocacy in construction contracts and associated professional negligence’. Laurence Kennedy is ‘an effective advocate in court, and excellent in an advisory role, where he handles complex property matters’.
